Former special counsel Jack Smith testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday, defending his two criminal investigations of President Trump. "I stand by my decisions as special counsel, including my decision to bring charges against President Trump," Smith said, adding he would make the same call "regardless of whether that President was a Republican or a Democrat." Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley accused Smith's operation of being "a partisan weapon that broke the rules," while Sen. John Kennedy sharply criticized Smith's subpoena of lawmakers' phone records during a heated exchange. Both of Smith's prosecutions were dismissed before trial after Trump won a second term.
